Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings was written by J.R.R. Tolkien. All three books were published in 1954. The books are based on Christianity, Norse mythology, Greek mythology, and Roman mythology.

The Fellowship of the Ring is about a hobbit that receives a ring from his uncle Bilbo, before Bilbo goes off on one last adventure. Gandalf the Grey a wise wizard was a friend of Bilbo’s and he promised to watch over Frodo as often as he could. Gandalf warns Frodo about magic rings many could have dark powers.

Gandalf went away for many years to find out more about Frodo’s ring. When Gandalf comes back he found out that the ring Frodo had was made by Sauron. It was Sauron’s ring. They went to Rivendell to find council on what to do with the ring. There they had a meeting with the leaders of Men, Dwarves, and Elves.

The Council decided to destroy the ring and the only way to do that was by throwing it into Mount Doom. Mount Doom was in the inside Mordor Sauron’s stronghold. They gathered together a party of nine Aragorn, Leoglos, Gimli, Gandalf, Boromir, Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Frodo. The fellowship sent out and went to Moria, a Dwarven city over ran by Orcs many years ago. It was there only choice to go there.

They did not meet anything until Pippin made a disturbance and the Orcs went to investigate. The fellowship ran away because they were outnumbered. They went across a narrow long bridge when Balrog attacked them. The Balrog was killed but Gandalf was lost. They ran out of Moria on the other side of the Misty Mountains.

Then they went to the woods of Lothlorian. The fellowship found welcome with the Elves living in the woods. In the woods they rested and resupplied. They floated down a river.

When they came to a point where they could go two ways to Gondor, Boromir’s city or keep going east to Mordor. Frodo wanted to have time to himself to decide. Boromir followed Frodo and tried to take the ring from him. Frodo not wanting to endanger his companions left to go east instead of going towards Gondor.

In my opinion The Fellowship of the Ring was a great book. The movies did not follow the books completely, but you cannot fit around 1200 pages into three two hour movies.

No offense Jackon but I hate the Hobbit and I’m sure I’d hate the rest of the series. Only the end of the Hobbit is the best. I might try reading the other books though, just for fun.
